Guardianship
Following the Children Act (1989), the Protection of Children Act (1999) and the Care Standards Act (2000) every boarding student, including those over the age of 18, who’s parents live outside the United Kingdom needs to have an appointed Guardian to act on behalf of the parents.
During the term time the School is legally responsible for each student’s welfare. However, during exeat weekends, holidays etc. the School has to hand over the parental responsibilities to the appointed Guardian/Guardianship organisation. The appointed Guardian might carry other obligation in agreement with the parents to establish appropriate care for the student. The nominated Guardian must be over 25 years of age, be a resident of the UK for at least three years and live within two hours travelling from the School.
